Dr. Garrett Knudson, who originally joined VCU in 2021, was elevated to Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development in March of 2026 after serving as Director of Student-Athlete Development for five years.Â
Knudson provides leadership for student-athlete success initiatives, leadership development, career readiness, and community engagement programs. During his VCU tenure he has launched several signature programs, including the Black and Gold Network Internship Program, VCU SUMMIT, and the RAMS Leadership Academy, enhancing the holistic development and post-graduation success of VCU student-athletes. He is also a member of VCU's Senior Athletics Leadership Team (SALT).Â
Prior to joining VCU, Knudson worked as Academic Coordinator and Director of Student-Athlete Development at UNCW from 2016-21.

Knudson graduated from Radford with a B.S. in Exercise, Sport, and Health Education in May of 2014, and received an M.S in Sport Management from West Virginia in December of 2015. Knudson completed his doctorate in Educational Leadership at UNCW in 2021.
