Chris Mignogna, a member of the VCU Sports Medicine staff since 2017, and was most recently promoted to the role of Assistant AD for Sports Medicine, in the Summer of 2024.  Â
As the leader of the Sports Medicine Department, he continues to strengthen a culture of professional and educational growth for staff and a Gold-Standard of medical care for all VCU Student-Athletes.
Mignogna remains responsible for providing evidence-based medical care for the Women’s Basketball program. This includes a multi-disciplinary approach to: injury management, rehabilitation & preventative maintenance. With a passion for data analytics, Mignogna was instrumental in the development and use of training metrics to track individual and team performance through Readiness Testing, GPS Tracking, and Linear Regression Models.  These implementations have decreased injury rates by over 10% within the Women’s Basketball program.
During his tenure with Women’s Basketball, Mignogna has cared for several all-conference athletes. Notably, 1st Team A10 honor athletes Taya Robinson, Tera Reed, and Sarah Te-Biasu.  Te-Biasu, having suffered a season-ending injury, returned for her senior year and was named A10 Player of the Year. While serving as their Athletic Trainer, Women’s Basketball won the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championship and the 2018-19 Atlantic 10 Regular Season Co-Championship. He has also served as the Athletic Trainer for the Men’s Golf and Women’s Volleyball teams. Both teams had Atlantic 10 Championship seasons while under his care.
Prior to VCU, Mignogna was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Old Dominion Monarchs Men’s Wrestling program. He also worked as a pre-season summer intern for both the University of Tennessee Volunteers and Wyoming Cowboys football programs.
Originally from Floral Park, NY, Mignogna earned a Masters in Post-Professional Athletic Training from Old Dominion University and a B.S. in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine from Quinnipiac University. He is a member of both the National Athletic Training Association and College Athletic Training Society.  He is certified in Functional Movement & Fundamental Capacity Screen level 1, M1 Graston Technique, Fascial Manipulation Lvl 1&2, Myokinematic Postural Restoration, and has three specializations in Dry Needling from Structure and Function.
