The Short Story: VCU Men's Track & Field competed in the first meet of the 2019 Outdoor season this weekend at the Miami Hurricane Invitational. Overall, the Rams had seven athletes finish within the top-five of their respective events.

How It Happened (Day One)

  • Sophomore Will Schwartz finished second in the Hammer Throw, recording a 57.09m toss.
  • Junior Bryce Catlett placed second in the 5000m Run, finishing with a time of 15:26.09.
  • Freshman Jaekob Vollbrecht earned a top-10 finish in the Discuss Throw, posting a toss of 47.21m.

How It Happened (Day Two)

  • Junior Drew Hess won the Javelin Throw, posting a toss of 58.22m. His mark was nearly 4 meters longer than the second place finisher.
  • Freshman Emmanuel Waller won the 400m Hurdles, recording a time of 52.80.
  • Freshman Jaekob Vollbrecht placed fourth in the Shot Put, posting a throw of 16.34m.
  • Junior Ian Davis earned a fifth place finish after posting a time of 14.54 in the 110m Hurdles.
  • VCU's 4x400m Relay Team placed fifth after posting a time of 3:17.78 on Saturday.

What's Next

The Rams will be back in action on Friday, March 22, to host the VCU Ram Invite at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va.
