SHIMAZAKI NAMED A-10 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Ryo Shimazaki (Kawasaki, Japan) has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Shimazaki earned the honor after a two-goal week. His two goals were vital to VCU's tie 1-1 with #24 Coastal Carolina and 4-3 victory over A-10 foe St. Joseph's.

The Kawasaki, Japan native led the Rams to multiple come-from-behind results on the road, scoring in the 86th minute against Coastal Carolina and converting a penalty in the 88th minute against St. Joseph's to send both matches to overtime. The Rams played to a 1-1 draw at Coastal Carolina and eventually defeated St. Joseph's 4-3 to improve to 2-0 in A-10 play.

Shimazaki and the Rams will be back in action Wednesday, Oct. 2 as they travel to Akron for a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
