RICHMOND, Va. – Men's soccer freshman Maverick McGann was honored with the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week award after an impressive collegiate debut that lifted VCU to a 1-0 victory over ETSU.
The Washington D.C. native made his first collegiate appearance in the 35th minute as a substitution for the Rams on Friday night's opener. It took the true freshman less than 10 minutes to find the back of the net. His first career goal came in the 43rd minute to give VCU a 1-0 lead. McGann forced a turnover in VCU's attacking third and dribbled through two defenders and slotted the ball past the keeper to secure the Rams opening night victory.
The Rams will return to the pitch Friday, September 6 for a tilt against Saint Francis. Kickoff at Sports Backers Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
