RICHMOND, Va. – The VCU Men's Soccer team made quite a splash on Wednesday morning, as six players were announced as winning Atlantic 10 Conference awards, including placing three on the All-Conference First Team as announced by the A-10. Luc Fatton, Rafael Andrade Santos, and Dakota Barnathan led the way with First Team selections, followed by a Second Team selection to team points leader Jorge Herranz. Both Greg Boehme and Pierre Gardan were named to the All-Conference All-Academic Team.

The six-player selection class is the biggest since 2013, when the Rams featured seven selections, including four First Team honors. Dakota Barnathan is the only selection this season to have also made the selections in 2013, when he was named to the All-Rookie Team. The Rams six selections are also the most in the Atlantic 10 this season.

Fatton, a redshirt junior, played and started in 16 games for the Rams this season. His seven goals would lead the team and tie him for second in the Atlantic 10. His best game arguably came against Old Dominion at Sports Backers on September 20, when he pumped in three goals in a Rams 5-1 victory. That performance also helped him earn Atlantic 10 Player of the Week following the game as well.

Santos, a junior, improved his game from just one year ago when he was named to the A-10 Second Team. He has been a conference selection each of his three seasons while wearing Black and Gold. This past season, he scored three goals with two assists, finishing with eight points which is third on the roster. He scored in back-to-back games versus Old Dominion and on the road at Saint Louis.

Barnathan, a redshirt senior, played and started in all 18 regular season games for the Rams this season. Despite being a defender and one of the best in the league, he did his part offensively finishing with two goals and three assists, totaling seven points. He also notched the only penalty kick awarded to the Rams all season. His stellar defense helped the Rams to four clean sheets this season.

Herranz, a senior, led the Rams in just about every offensive category. Also playing and starting in all 18 games, his five goals and seven assists put up a total of 17 points, best on the roster and ranked fourth in the league. His assists were number one in the Atlantic 10, as well as his four game-winning goals.

Boehme, a redshirt junior, was also solid both offensively and defensively on the season. As co-captain, he provided leadership on and off the pitch, and also chipping in with a goal on the season that he scored in the Rams final road game, at Davidson on Oct. 29.

Gardan, a junior, enjoyed a fine season between the pipes for the Black and Gold, turning in four clean sheets on the year. He helped the Rams to a ranked win against #23 Vermont on Sept. 11, as well as a clean sheet in a 0-0 tie at #23 Akron on Sept. 27. Due to his performances, he was also once named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week during the season.

The Rams open up play as the fifth-seed in the A-10 Championships tomorrow, Thursday, November 10 when they face off against fourth-seeded UMass at 2 p.m. at host site Davidson.
