, Va. – For the second straight week a member of the VCU men's soccer team not only was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, not only earned a spot on College Soccer News' National Team of the Week, but topped it off with being named the Virginia Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week. This week's recipient was sophomore Dennis Castillo.

He earned the honor after helping VCU capture the University of Akron Tournament championship with back-to-back shutouts.

Castillo, who was also named the tournament's Offensive MVP, played a big role in both wins over the weekend.  He netted the game-winning goal in the 75th minute of VCU's 1-0 triumph at No. 7 Akron, before assisting on junior Kharlton Belmar's game-winner Sunday as the Rams capped their undefeated weekend with a 1-0 victory over 2012 NCAA Tournament participant Niagara.

VCU, which is 5-1-1 against ranked opponents the last two seasons, handed Akron just its second home loss in more than five years, and the Zips' first since a 1-0 setback against Michigan State on Nov. 2, 2011.  Akron is currently 86-5-9 at home dating back to the 2006 season.

The Rams' win over the Zips was their second straight against a Top 15 team on the road as VCU also defeated No. 13 Maryland 3-2 on Sept. 8.

Castillo and the Rams return to Sports Backers Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 21 to host Coastal Carolina at 6 p.m.  VCU then travels to ACC foe and 15th-ranked Wake Forest on Sept. 24.
