Soccer Elects Three Captains for 2012 Season

RICHMOND, Va. – The VCU Men's Soccer team held its annual team captain voting earlier this week.  Sophomore Juan Monge Solano, junior Nate Shiffman, and freshman Dennis Castillo were all named captains for the 2012 season.

Solano comes off of a decorated freshman campaign for the Rams in 2011. He was First Team All-CAA, and was a member of the CAA Al-Rookie Team. The San Jose, Costa Rico native also garnered Freshman All-America honors. Solano started all 20 matches, finished with five goals and one assist.

Shiffman has played in 27 matches for VCU since arriving in 2010. During his two seasons, he has tallied one goal and three assists from his midfield position. The Midlothian, Va. native has played nearly 2,000 minutes for the Rams, thus far.

Castillo will be making his first official appearance in the Black & Gold, when VCU opens against Bucknell on Aug. 24. He spent the spring season with Rams, making an immediate impact, and worked his way into the starting lineup.
