Kevin O'Connell

Kevin O’Connell was brought on to Matt Ball’s staff in February as an assistant coach. A participant in the 2019 Masters Tournament, O’Connell comes to VCU with a wealth of experience at both the professional and amateur level.
 
Recently, O’Connell has competed in amateur tournaments while working as an associate advisor at Curi Capital in Raleigh, N.C. In 2018, he won the United States Golf Association’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Following the victory, he was selected to participate in the 2019 Masters and the 2019 U.S. Open Championship.
 
Prior to 2018, O’Connell worked with professional athletes as an associate relationship manager at Franklin Street Partners in Chapel Hill, N.C.
 
From 2011-14, he competed professionally in tournaments across the United States.
 
Before his professional career, O’Connell had a standout collegiate career at the University of North Carolina from 2007-11. Following the 2007-08 season, he was selected to the Division I All-American team and was named Freshman of the Year in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
 
A native of Cary, N.C., O’Connell graduated from UNC with a degree in American history in 2012.
