Biography

THE BASICS:

  • Aggressive, physical guard who attacks the basket.
  • Plus defender and workman-like rebounder.
  • Younger brother of Bradford Burgess, who played for the Rams from 2008-11 and starred on VCU's Final Four squad. NCAA Tournament team. Bradford set an all-time NCAA record for consecutive starts with 146.

  • Appeared in 28 games earning 14 starts for the Black and Gold. 
  • Notched two season-high 14 point-performances in wins against Richmond (2/19) and George Washington (2/27). 
  • Tallied 12 points and five rebounds in the Rams 76-67 win over Old Dominion (11/28). 
  • Scored eight points and seven rebounds in a losing effort against Duke in the 2K Classic. 

2014-15: REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE

  • Had back-to-back 10-point games against California (Pa.) (exhibition, 11/7) and Tennesee (11/14) to start the season.
  • Scored a season-high 12 points and grabbed seven bards in a win over Oregon (11/25). 
  • Just missed a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds at Illinois State (12/2).
  • Scored 11 points and recorded at least three rebounds against Toledo (11/18) and Cincinnati (12/20).

2013-14: REDSHIRT FRESHMAN

  • Appeared in 31 games for the Rams, making 19 starts.
  • Reached a career-high 18 points in his first collegiate start in a loss at Northern Iowa (12/14).
  • Had a 14-point game and grabbed four boards versus Stephen F. Austin (3/21).

2012-13: FRESHMAN

  • Sat out 2012-13 season after being ruled a partial qualifier by the NCAA
  • Earned Dean's List both semesters in 2012-13

PRIOR TO VCU:

  • Listed as the No. 4 recruit in Virginia, according to ESPN.com. Late bloomer who cracked ESPN’s Top 100 during his senior year.
  • Scored 17.5 points, pulled down 7.5 rebounds and shot better than 40 percent from beyond the 3-point arc to lead Benedictine to the VISAA State Semifinals as a senior. He earned All-State and All-Metro accolades for his efforts.
  • As a junior, he was a key factor in Benedictine’s Independent School State championship, averaging 13 points and eight rebounds per night. For his outstanding play, he garnered All-State and All-Metro recognition.
  • Recruited heavily by Penn State, Saint Joseph’s, George Mason and Richmond.
