Chris Gaines

Chris Gaines was named Video Coordinator for the VCU Men’s Basketball program in August of 2019. A VCU graduate, Gaines is tasked with recording and coding practices and games, editing videos for scouting purposes and helping with other day-to-day responsibilities within the program.

Gaines previously served as a student manager under Rhoades (2017-18), Will Wade (2015-17) and Shaka Smart (2014-15), where he played an integral role behind the scenes of one of the top programs in the nation.

He was a part of the 2014-15 Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship team and the 2016-17 A-10 regular season championship squad before transitioning to assistant video coordinator for VCU’s 2018-19 A-10 regular season championship run.

Gaines comes from a basketball family, which includes his mother, Ellen Corum Gaines, who played on the VCU Women’s Basketball team from 1981-1985. While he never played on the varsity team at VCU, he did lead the Rams’ manager team to a national championship in San Antonio, Texas in 2018.

A native of Tappahannock, Va., Gaines graduated from Rappahannock High School in 2011 and went on to enroll at VCU for undergrad. He graduated from the university in 2015 with a degree in criminal justice and a minor in homeland security.
