Casey Long

Casey Long enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Rams in 2016-17 following a stint as VCU's director of operations in 2015-16.

Long, who was a four-year standout at Chattanooga from 2003-07, also spent three seasons as an assistant coach for the Mocs from 2012-2014, including two under current VCU Coach Will Wade.

"Casey was one of those guys I knew immediately I wanted to bring with me here to VCU," Wade said. "He is an unbelievable asset to our program and will build tremendous relationships with our guys. He's one of those people that is always upbeat and will have a positive impact on our players and our program."

Long played a vital role for the Mocs as they broke a seven-year drought winning the 2005 Southern Conference Championship. He is the only UTC student-athlete to record 1,000 points, 450 rebounds and 350 assists during his career. Long excelled in the classroom as well. He won the Athletic Academic Award for maintaining a 3.5 grade point average and was a Vocational Honor Student and a recipient of the Principal’s Award.

He earned his degree in Political Science (American Studies) from UTC in 2007. Twice he tallied Athletic Director’s Honor Roll mention. He is married to the former Co’chea Rivera. The couple has a daughter, Catalina.
