RICHMOND, Va. – VCU forward Justin Tillman (Detroit, Mich.) has been putting together a historic senior season, and it hasn't gone without notice. On Tuesday, on the eve of the league tournament, Tillman was named All-Atlantic 10 Conference First Team, as well as to the All-Defensive Team.
The 6-8, 220-pound Tillman is averaging career-highs of 18.9 points, which is fifth-best in the A-10, and a league-high 9.7 rebounds per game. Tillman is shooting .561 from the field, including .351 (26-of-74) from 3-point range. He has also blocked 30 shots this year for the Rams (17-14, 9-9 A-10).
This season Tillman has produced 16 double-doubles, the most by a Ram since Bernard Hopkins recorded 18 during the 1995-96 campaign. Along the way, the Detroit native has climbed to 19th on VCU's career scoring list and third on the school's all-time rebounding chart. He has topped 20 points in 17 games this season, including a career-high 37 in an overtime win over Dayton on Feb. 10.
Tillman's citation marks the fifth straight year a VCU player has been named All-Atlantic 10 First Team, joining JeQuan Lewis (2017), Melvin Johnson (2016) and Treveon Graham (2014, 2015).
Last season, Tillman was named Third Team All-Atlantic 10, and prior to this year, he was named to the league's Preseason First Team.
Tillman and VCU are set to face Dayton on Thursday, March 8 at noon in the second round the A-10 Tournament at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C
