BROOKLYN, N.Y. – After winning its first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship, VCU learned they will meet Ohio State on Thursday in the NCAA Tournament at the Moda Center in Portland, Ore.
The Rams (26-9) received the 7-seed in the West Region. The Rams became the first program in the Commonwealth of Virginia to reach the NCAA Tournament five straight years.
Tenth-seeded Ohio State (23-10) fell to Michigan State in the BigTen Tournament quarterfinals on Friday. The Buckeyes are making their 27th NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Buckeyes, who are making their 27th NCAA Tournament appearance, are led by Big Ten Freshman of Year D'Angelo Russell. Russell is the leading freshman scorer in the country averaging 19.3 points per game and 5.6 rebounds. Sam Thompson is the only other Buckeye to average double-digits at 10.2 points per game. As a team, Ohio State is shooting .486 from the floor and .372 from long range.
The winner of Thursday's match-up will face the winner of the two-seeded Arizona and 15-seeded Texas Southern. The game is set for approximately 4:45 p.m. EST and will be on TNT.
