RAMS EARN PRESEASON AP TOP-20 RANKING FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON

RICHMOND, Va. – No games are won by preseason rankings, but they do show just how far a program has come.

Prior to last year, the VCU Basketball program had never earned a Preseason Assoicated Press Top-25 ranking. Now, the Rams will enter 2014-15 ranked in the top-15 for the second consecutive season.

"We've always had high expectations within our program and we want to be at a place that there is high expectations for us and that's the way VCU is," Head Coach Shaka Smart said. "I think it says a lot about our returning players, but it really doesn't change much in terms of our approach. The bottom line is that everyone starts the year 0-0."

Last year, VCU sat at #14 and reached as high as #10 after going 3-0 to start the season.

The Rams finished last year with a 26-9 mark and a fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth, a first in program history.

VCU is led by Preseason Atlantic 10 Player of the Year candidate Treveon Graham, who averaged 15.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game last season.

The Rams will be in action next Friday, November 7, when they host California University (Pa.) in an exhibition contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
