RAMS SLOTTED 16TH IN USA TODAY PRESEASON COACHES POLL

Full Preseason Poll

RICHMOND, Va. – Prior to the arrival of Head Coach Shaka Smart, VCU had appeared in the Top-25 polls during two seasons (1983-84, 1984-85).

After the announcement of the USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll, the Rams will be in the Top-25 in four of Smart's six seasons at VCU. The Black & Gold will enter the 2014-15 season as #16 in the country according to the poll.

This is the second straight season the Rams enter the year in the top-20 after being ranked 15th in last year's preseason poll.

Earlier this week, VCU was picked as the unanimous favorite in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll.

The Rams return six of their top eight scorers from last year, including Preseason All-American Treveon Graham, who led the team with 15.8 points per game and ranked second on the team with 7.0 rebounds per night.

Joining the talented group of returners is the 14th-best recruiting class in the country according to ESPN.com. Terry Larrier, Justin Tillman, Jonathan Williams and Michael Gilmore all added skilled depth to VCU's roster.

The Rams open up the 2014-15 season in the Veterans Classic in Annapolis, Md. on Nov. 14 against the Volunteers of Tennessee. Game time on CBS Sports Network is set for 6:30 p.m.
