RICHMOND, Va. – If you've been clamoring to see VCU get a chance to avenge its Final Four loss to Butler from 2011, your wait will soon be over.

A match-up with Butler at the Verizon Wireless Arena highlights VCU Men's Basketball's eight-game inaugural Atlantic 10 home schedule, the league revealed Tuesday. The A-10 released each school's home and road opponents for the 2012-13 basketball season. Dates and times have not been set.
The A-10 schedule will remain at 16 games for 2012-13. VCU will partner with cross-town rival Richmond in the 16-team league and play a home-and-home series. The Rams and Spiders have not met twice in a season since 2004-05.  However, VCU and Richmond have met at least once every year since 1976.
Other VCU home dates include long-time league stalwarts Dayton, Massachusetts and Saint Joseph's, plus Fordham, George Washington and LaSalle. Dayton, UMass, Saint Joe's and LaSalle all earned NIT bids last year.
The Rams' A-10 road slate is a challenging one, and will include 2012 NCAA Tournament participants Saint Bonaventure, Saint Louis, Temple and Xavier, as well as Charlotte, Duquesne and Rhode Island.
VCU, along with Butler, will move to the A-10 from the Colonial Athletic Association and Horizon League, respectively, next season. The two schools famously met at the 2011 Final Four in Houston, Texas. While the Bulldogs eventually eased past the Rams for a 70-62 win, it did little to dull the shine of VCU's stunning Final Four run.
The remainder of VCU's 2012-13 men's basketball schedule, including dates and times for A-10 games, will be released at a later date.
Led by fourth-year coach Shaka Smart, the Rams return four starters and 12 of 13 letterwinners next season from a team that won a school-record 29 games and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
