RICHMOND, Va. – Recently, VCU men's basketball has taken us back to our early school years of learning about supply and demand. For example, with nine straight sellouts and counting, the supply of available tickets to home games at the Verizon Wireless Arena has been very low, while the demand continues to be at an all time high.

The same can be said for listening to VCU Basketball on the radio airwaves, fortunately, in this case, the supply can meet the demand as Ram Radio will now be heard in the Tidewater Area on 102.1 FM & 1490 AM The Game.

"We're excited to be on the radio in that part of the Commonwealth," says Associate Athletic Director Robby Robinson, "it truly goes to show how popular VCU Basketball has become. During a time when many schools are cutting out radio all together, we are growing our footprint, and we can trace that back to the success Coach Shaka Smart's teams have enjoyed."

The relationship began with a phone conversation back in September between Robinson and The Game's John DeCandido.

"They are a great sports station down in the Virginia Beach area and are actually owned by the same group that owns ESPN 950 here in Richmond," comments Robinson.  "We've done so much with ESPN 950 up here, including the Shaka Smart Radio Show presented by Nationwide Insurance, it was a natural fit to air our games with The Game down in Hampton Roads.  We figured out the best way to transmit our broadcast to them and from there the partnership took off."

102.1 FM and 1490 AM The Game now joins Big Oldies 107.3 WBBT FM in Richmond in the lineup of stations that carry VCU Men's Basketball.  Fans around the world can also access Ram Radio broadcasts on the internet on www.vcuathletics.com and on their smartphone browsers at www.vcuathletics.com/rr.

"The smartphone and internet streams are fantastic because it allows our fans to consume our games from pretty much anywhere in the world that they have internet access or cell service," Robinson continues, "but in reality, the majority of our fans still listen to our games on terrestrial radio and 102.1 FM & 1490 AM The Game now expand our VCU Basketball territory."

Ram Radio broadcasts begin 30 minutes prior to gametime.  Robinson handles the play-by-play, Associate Athletic Director Mike Ellis provides color analysis and Wes McElroy hosts the pregame show for home games.
