Katherine Cotton joined VCU Field Hockey as an assistant coach in July of 2023.
 
Cotton joined VCU after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Holy Cross. Cotton has also served as an assistant coach at MIT and worked with club programs the MAINE STYX and the East Coast Wizards.
 
"We are excited to welcome yet another talented, young coach to the program. Coach Cotton brings a diverse background of experience to the team that will benefit our student-athletes in their growth and development as we work towards earning another A10 Championship," Bean said.
 
Prior to Holy Cross, Cotton served two years as an assistant coach at MIT. She helped the Engineers advance to the program’s first NCAA DIII Regional Final in 2019 while also being part of the NFHCA Division III New England East Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
Cotton has also served as the goalkeeping director for MAINE STYX from 2016 to 2020 and additionally coached with the East Coast Wizards.
 
Cotton, a native of Kennebunk, Maine, was a dual-sport athlete at Nichols College where played goalkeeper for the field hockey team while also playing lacrosse. She graduated from Nichols in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Cotton graduated from Boston College in 2020 with a master's degree in sport administration.
