STURM, FIELD EARN NFHCA SOUTH REGION HONORS

GILBERT, Ariz. – VCU Field Hockey's Maite Sturm and Litiana Field were both named to the NFHCA South Region Second Team as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Monday.

Sturm, a junior midfielder, earned the honor for the third consecutive season while Field, a sophomore defender, earned the honor for the first time.

Sturm was also named All-Atlantic 10 First Team for a second straight season after she led VCU with 17 total points after scoring a team-high seven goals and adding five assists. She scored her seven goals on an efficient 29 total shot attempts and also scored one game-winning goal. Sturm had been named to the All-Atlantic 10 Preseason Team prior to the season.

Field had also earned All-Atlantic 10 Second Team honors for the second straight season after anchoring a VCU defense that allowed a paltry 1.39 goals per game, a mark that ranked 21st nationally. The Rams also allowed just 8.1 total shots per game and 4.89 shots on goal per game.
