RICHMOND, Va. - VCU Field Hockey Head Coach Kelly McQuade recently announced the addition of student-athlete Nicola Breeman (Schoten, Belgium) to the class of 2011.

"We are very excited to add Nicola to our list of already talented recruits for 2011," McQuade said. "Her international experience on the midfield and forward lines will provide us with the depth necessary to find future success."
Coached by Adam Commens and Fluer van de Kieft, Breeman plays for the Royal Antwerp Ladies 1 Hockey Club. A member of the Ladies 1 squad for two years, she is a three-time participant in the Belgium playoffs, and recently competed in the European Cup in April.
Breeman completes a six-player recruiting class for the McQuade and her staff in time for the 2011 season.
VCU returns nine starters in 2010, including two-time All-Colonial Athletic Association forward Kelsey Scherrer (Chesapeake, Va.). The Rams were 13-7 a year ago under McQuade, the 2010 CAA Coach of the Year.

Breeman on becoming a Ram: "During my visit to VCU, the university felt like home for me. I love the city, the campus and the fantastic business school! The coaches of the hockey team are great and the team is amazing! After my visit I felt so good that I look forward to being a student and hockey player at VCU!"

Dr. & Mrs. Breeman on joining the Ram Family: "Our first visit to VCU was end of March this year. It is said that the first impression is the best one. Our first impression was absolutely fantastic: team spirit, family feeling, motivation of the coaches and support of the business school. All these things made us feel convinced that our daughter will be in good hands so far away from home."
