RICHMOND – Junior relief pitcher Mac McCarty was recognized for his solid 2018 season at VCU, as he was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region First Team as announced by the organization on Wednesday morning.

McCarty, a transfer from Pierce Community College, anchored the back of the bullpen for the Rams this past season. He accumulated 16 saves, and was consistently among the nation’s top three in the category all season long. He would notch seven of his 16 saves during VCU’s run of 14 straight victories, topping it off with their 4-2 win over Saint Louis on the road. McCarty finished the season with a 3.26 ERA, and a 1-1 record in 30 appearances. Appearing in 38.2 innings, he walked only 13 and struck out 36 batters along the way. With his season, he now sits sixth all-time in program history in saves and put up the second-highest save total in a single season.

Nine of the 26 players announced to the teams were Atlantic 10 representatives, including this season's Player of the Year Isaiah Pasteur from George Washington. The Colonials planted three players on the teams, with all coming with First Team honors. George Mason also collected three award winners, while Richmond had two named as well.
