RICHMOND, Va. – Head Coach Shawn Stiffler unveiled the slate of opponents that VCU Baseball would be facing in their upcoming 2017 season on Thursday afternoon. Headlining the field of games are 12 matchups against teams that participated in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The Rams will be playing 29 total home games at The Diamond this season.

"We are very excited about this year's schedule," said Stiffler. "We have put together a non-conference slate that will not only test us but prepare us for Atlantic 10 play."

VCU will spend seven of those games against last year's NCAA opponents on the road, first opening their season Feb. 17-19, as they will head to Tallahassee, Florida to take on the Seminoles of Florida State in a three-game series. They will also hit the UNCW Seahawks a month later on Mar. 17-19. The seventh road game is a single mid-week matchup on Tuesday, Apr. 11 as they travel to Charlottesville to take on Virginia.

Stiffler added, "Our hope is that playing in some very hostile environments on the road will give us the toughness we need to play late into the season."

The Black and Gold will also host Virginia at The Diamond on Tuesday, Mar. 28., followed by another mid-week matchup on Wednesday, Apr. 4 as they take on the William & Mary Tribe. The Rams swept the three matchups with the pair of schools last season.

Other non-conference matchups will feature a three-game series against 2016 NCAA participant Fairfield from Mar. 3-5 at The Diamond, and battle on the road against ACC foe North Carolina, on Tuesday, Mar. 7.

The Rams kick off their home schedule on Tuesday, Feb. 28 as they host Old Dominion at 3 p.m. They will also see home matchups with Norfolk State, Oakland, Marist, Longwood, VMI, and Liberty.

Atlantic 10 play will begin with back-to-back three-game series versus La Salle on Mar. 24-26 and George Washington Mar. 31-Apr. 2. Other home A-10 opponents are Davidson and St. Joseph's, while VCU will hit the road to face UMass, Fordham, Dayton, and Richmond. They will wrap up their year with a three-game set at Richmond May 22-24.

The Rams are coming off their third consecutive season of 37 or more wins and a trip to the A-10 Semi-Finals. This year's A-10 Tournament will take place from Wednesday, May 24 through Sunday, May 27 and will be hosted by Saint Louis in St. Louis, MO.
