CHICAGO, Ill. – Former VCU standout Scott Sizemore is making the most of his latest call-up to the Detroit Tigers, playing solid defense and collecting hits in two of his three at-bats entering Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox.

Saturday brought Sizemore's biggest major league moment as he was called on to pinch-hit in the top of the eighth and proceeded to launch a long three-run homerun to left field, giving the Tigers their 74th victory of the season.

The Cheaspeake, Va. native launched a 2-1 pitch from Chris Sale halfway up the left field seats to give Detroit a 6-3 lead, which would never be relinquished by former ODU hurler Justin Verlander.

"It was awesome," Sizemore said. "Sale has got great stuff and I was just trying to get the barrel on the ball. I was able to get enough elevation to get it out and I'm just happy I was able to help this team get the win."

Sizemore entered the game to bat for former William & Mary standout Will Rhymes to face Sale.

"Coming off the bench isn't always the easiest thing," Sizemore added. "You just have to be ready for any opportunity you get and I'm just excited about the chance to get better each day."

Brandon Inge, another former Ram star, tallied two hits in the game as well for the Tigers.
