VCU Baseball Head Coach Bradley LeCroy announced the hiring of Tanner Gordon as assistant coach in August of 2022.
In his first year in charge of the VCU Baseball pitching staff Gordon saw a handful of top performances during the season, including a complete game shutout thrown by Mason Delane (RHP) and an immaculate innings tossed by Brian Curley (RHP). The Rams also had three pitchers win Atlantic 10 weekly awards, with Delane being named Pitcher of the Week, Curley earning Rookie of the Week honors and Zachary Peters (RHP) twice being named Rookie of the Week.
Before coming to VCU, Gordon spent the past five years as pitching coach at Murray State, where he helped the Racers post the third-best ERA in the Ohio Valley Conference last season. MSU also allowed the fewest home runs per game in the OVC in 2022. Murray State ranked second in the OVC in ERA in 2020, and Gordon has been integral in the development of four All-OVC pitchers since 2019.

Prior to Murray State, Gordon spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn., where he helped lead the Trojans to a pair of Great Midwest Conference regular season crowns. Eight Trevecca pitchers earned All-Conference honors during his tenure, including three First Team selections, as well the 2016 GMAC Reliever of the Year award. Gordon has also coached at Mercer, Middle Georgia State College and Andrew College.
