VCU baseball fell to Rhode Island on the road in the opening game of the Atlantic 10 weekend series, 5-1, on Friday afternoon. It's VCU's first series-opening loss in its 2026 A-10 slate.

LEADING OFF:
- In his first Division I start, Elias Holbert allowed just one run and three hits in 4.0 innings, tying his season-best six strikeouts
- Catcher Teige Lethert extended his hitting streak to a team-high eight games
- Trent Adelman notched a pair of hits in the game, while Quinn Maher drove in VCU's lone run
- Both of VCU's walks were drawn by Jacob Lee, who reached base three times in the contest
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Holbert stranded three Rhody baserunners to extend his scoreless start through three frames, but Rhode Island broke the stalemate in the fourth inning with a run-scoring double
- Maher singled in Adelman to even the score, but Rhode Island had an answer in the home half of the fifth to regain its one-run lead, 2-1
- Cooper Campbell inherited runners on the corners, entering the game with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and stranded the pair
- URI extended its lead in the seventh and eighth innings to take the opening game of the weekend, 5-1
