VCU FALLS TO LATE MONARCH RALLY IN MIDWEEK

VCU baseball was unable to subdue Old Dominion's ninth-inning rally on Tuesday night, falling to the Monarchs 7-6 at the Ellmer Family Baseball Complex.
 
LEADING OFF:
  • Nick Flores had his second three-hit game in the last three contests, going 3-5 with a stolen base
  • Quinn Maher tallied a game-high three RBI on a walk and run-scoring double
  • Michael Petite extended his team-leading reached base streak to 14 games with a double in the first inning
  • Junior left-hander Bryce Carter went 1.1 frames without allowing a run and giving up just one hit on the mound
  • Junior right-fielder Trent Adelman was hit by two pitches, one for an RBI
  • The Rams were outhit 11-9 by the Monarchs
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU opened the scoring in the contest, working up a 4-0 lead through three innings on RBI free passes drawn by Trent Adelman and Maher and a pair of run-inducing double plays, while Hunter Gotschall carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning
  • Old Dominion worked its way back to tie the game at 4-4 with a pair of two-run frames in the fourth and the sixth
  • Carter and Nick Frers held off the Monarchs offense in the next two innings, while Maher belted a two-out double in the eighth to score a pair of runs
  • ODU completed its comeback in the ninth with four hits to take its decisive 7-6 lead in walk-off fashion

VCU will return to The Diamond to continue its Atlantic 10 schedule against Saint Louis on Friday-Sunday, May 1-3. All of the contests will be broadcast on ESPN+.
