The Short Story:Â VCU led Davidson 5-4 with 13:02 left in the fourth quarter but goals from
Sam Palmer and
Kenson Epperly gave the Rams an insurmountable lead in a road A-10 win.
OPENING DRAW:
- Kenson Epperly scored a team-high two goals and had a team-high five shots
- Rachel Koeneke and Kiley Kozak each recorded a goal and an assist
- Amelia Eilabcher and Kate Unzicker each scored one goal
- Lu Doyen had seven saves on 12 shots faced in goal for the Rams
- VCU trailed 12-10 in shots on goal and 9-6 in draw controls
- The Wildcats were led by Aeryn Curren who had a game-high three goals
HOW IT HAPPENED
- VCU's Unzicker opened the scoring with 12:03 left in the first quarter but the two teams engaged in a defensive battle. Davidson took a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter as VCU went scoreless for a 16:07 streak
- The Rams then took control of the game and scored four of the next five goals to take a 5-3 lead with 12:12 left in the third quarter
- Davidson scored to get within 5-4 with 13:02 left in the contest but goals from Palmer and Epperly extended the lead to 7-4 as the Rams fended off the Wildcats
