RICHMOND, Va.- Freshman sprinter Presten Augustin and redshirt senior jumper Sydney Carr took home Atlantic 10 weekly awards after strong performances at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, hosted by Liberty.Â
Augustin was named men's Rookie of the Week by the A-10 after a 7.92s 60m hurdle time which saw him break the program record in the event and obtain the 2nd fastest time in the conference. Overall, Augustin finished 2nd in an event with 45 competitors.
The Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. native has had a strong debut season as a collegiate sprinter. In addition to his program record in the 60h, he has also produced strong performances in the 60m, 200m and 300m runs and was a member of the first-place 4x400m relay team at the VMI Winter Relays. He becomes the second men's track athlete to win Rookie of the Week during the indoor season as jumper Destiny Ese took home the award on Jan. 13.Â
Carr was named women's Field Co-Performer of the Week along with Molly Wise of Richmond. She set a season-best mark in the triple jump in a victorious performance at Liberty. The 12.14m jump now ranks 3rd in the A-10 this season and is her third top-5 performance on the campaign.Â
Carr now joins Desi Akaolisa as members of the women's team to win Field Athlete of the Week this season. Akaolisa won the award on Jan. 20 after an 18.57m weight throw at the Virginia Tech Invitational.Â
The Rams set their sights on the A-10 Indoor Championships beginning on Friday, Feb. 27 and continuing on Saturday, Feb. 28. Both Augustin and Carr seek to contend for A-10 championships in their respective event at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.Â
