SECOND-SET COMEBACK SPARKS VCU SWEEP OF GEORGE WASHINGTON

The short story: Senior middle blocker Nina Boledovicova and junior outside hitter Lara Del Core combined for 22 kills to fuel a VCU sweep of George Washington Friday night at the Siegel Center.
 
OPENING VOLLEY
  • Boledovicova registered a match-high 12 kills while hitting .500 on 18 swings. She added three blocks and a service ace
  • Del Core added 10 kills while hitting .368 for the Black and Gold
  • Junior middle blocker Letizia Galli patrolled the middle to the tune of five blocks, including two solos, for the Rams. She also kicked in eight kills
  • Junior setter Cansin Sendir dished out 40 assists on a productive night for the VCU offense
THE DIFFERENCE
  • VCU used a dramatic, second set comeback to take the wind out of the Revolutionaries' sails. The Rams trailed 22-18, but kills by Del Core and Boledovicova keyed a 4-0 burst to tie the set at 22-22. The teams traded the next six points until a right-handed blast by senior outside hitter Gabby LaPata and a bad set by GW provided the Rams with a 27-25 victory
  • The Black and Gold outhit George Washington .252 to .146
  • The Rams served up eight aces, including three by Del Core, and owned a 35-32 edge in digs 
NOTABLE
VCU has won 15 of its last 17 matches against the Revolutionaries, a hot streak that dates back to the 2016 season.
