RICHMOND, Va. - VCU Men's Tennis sophomore
Mats Bredschneijder was named Player of the Week by the Atlantic 10 Conference on Wednesday following his performances against Georgetown and Charlotte.
Bredschneijder opened his spring season with a strong showing against Georgetown, earning a 6-2 victory on court one in doubles alongside partner
Erwann Bouchet. He followed that showing with a straight-sets singles 6-2, 6-4 victory on court one.
Bredschneijder continued his strong play against Charlotte, beginning the day with another doubles victory on court one, teaming with Bouchet for a 6-4 win over Ivan Dreycopp and Vasco Prata. Later that afternoon, he delivered a marathon singles performance, defeating Dreycopp in a nearly three-hour battle, 7-6(11), 4-6, 1-0(9), showcasing his composure and competitiveness in a decisive match tiebreak.
Prior to joining VCU, Bredschneijder competed at the collegiate level at Auburn, where he posted a 5-2 singles record and earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Before college, he was ranked among the top 20 players in the Netherlands.
The Rams return to action next on January 30, where they will host DePaul with first serve set for 2 p.m.
