Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

RAMS SHOW SPIRIT IN NARROW 4-3 LOSS TO CHARLOTTE

Score: Charlotte 4, VCU 3
Location: Richmond, Va. (Thalhimer Tennis Center)
Records: VCU 1-1 (0-0 Atlantic-10), Charlotte 2-0

The Short Story: VCU Men's Tennis came up just short in a tightly contested 4-3 loss to Charlotte on Sunday afternoon.

Quote from Coach Kutrovsky: "Tough match today. We were very close in doubles but it slipped away right at the end. Some good performances in singles and some that need some work. It's good to face good opponents early in the season and experience the level we need to show consistently in order to be where we can be."

Opening Serve
  • The Rams were unable to secure the doubles point despite early momentum across all three courts. As the three matches progressed, Leon Zaorski and Patrik Petera fell first on court three 6-2. The Rams were given hope shortly after when Mats Bredschneijder and Erwann Bouchet earned a 6-4 victory on court one. However Nicolo Consonni and Gevorg Mnatsakanyan came up just short in a close 6-4 decision on court two to ultimately give the doubles point to Charlotte
  • Singles play opened with Consonni falling on court two, 6-2, 6-1, followed by a close 6-4, 6-4 loss from Bouchet on court three after leading early in the match. Moments later Zaorski, despite forcing a third set, fell 6-0, 1-6, 6-0, allowing Charlotte to secure the overall team victory
  • Despite the early setbacks, the Rams drew energy from Bredschneijder, who battled for nearly three hours in a heated match on court one. He claimed the opening set in a dramatic 13-11 tiebreaker before dropping the second set 6-4. He then answered with an 11-9 victory in the match tiebreaker to earn the point for VCU, showcasing relentless competitive will
  • On court five, Mnatsakanyan carried the momentum with a steady straight-sets victory, defeating Emilio Sanchez 6-4, 6-4 while remaining composed and in control throughout the match
  • Rounding out the afternoon on court six, Petera earned his first collegiate singles victory. After dropping the opening set 6-3, he responded with a convincing 6-2 second set and sealed the match in dominant fashion, winning the deciding tiebreaker 10-4 after taking the final six points
