HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite East Carolina starting the match with a strong presence in VCU's defensive third, the Rams combined for five saves to hold off the visitors' scoring until the 27th minute
- VCU returned from the first goal with renewed energy and created a pair of chances over the next two minutes, but wasn't able to land an on-target shot early in the match
- With less than five minutes on the clock in the first period, ECU's Holly Schlagel added to the Pirates' lead with their second goal of the contest
- In the first five minutes of the second half, Pongratz added three saves to her total, but conceded a pair of goals in the 53rd and 58th minutes
- The Rams stood tall for the final 30 minutes of the contest, creating a pair of scoring opportunities, but fell 4-0
