VCU women's soccer fell to East Carolina, 4-0, Sunday afternoon to conclude its second week of play.

  • Mia Pongratz made a career-high eight saves between the posts
  • VCU combined for two team saves
  • Freshman duo Brooke Owens and Mina Stevens each made their first collegiate starts
  • Brianna Lawrence placed the Rams' lone shot on goal
  • East Carolina committed 10 fouls to VCU's six
  • Four Rams—Pongratz, Ava Pustover, Y-Van Nguyen and Stella Castro—played the full 90
  • ECU held the edge in shots 21-5, shots on goal 14-1 and corner kicks 14-5
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite East Carolina starting the match with a strong presence in VCU's defensive third, the Rams combined for five saves to hold off the visitors' scoring until the 27th minute
  • VCU returned from the first goal with renewed energy and created a pair of chances over the next two minutes, but wasn't able to land an on-target shot early in the match
  • With less than five minutes on the clock in the first period, ECU's Holly Schlagel added to the Pirates' lead with their second goal of the contest
  • In the first five minutes of the second half, Pongratz added three saves to her total, but conceded a pair of goals in the 53rd and 58th minutes
  • The Rams stood tall for the final 30 minutes of the contest, creating a pair of scoring opportunities, but fell 4-0
