HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter was a defensive battle with the Minutewomen holding a 2-0 lead after the first
- The Minutewomen extended their lead to 4-0 before Palmer scored VCU's first goal of the day with 11:24 left before halftime
- UMass extended its lead to 6-2 with 3:08 left before halftime but the Rams reeled off three unanswered goals to close the half. VCU's Whitmore scored a goal with one second left in the half to get the Rams within 6-5 at the break
- The third quarter was tightly contested with VCU trailing by no more than three goals and cut the deficit to 11-9 heading into the final 10 minutes
- The Rams scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 11-11 on a goal from Whitmore with 12:28 remaining. The Rams were only able to score one more time as UMass outscored VCU 7-1 to pull away for the win.
