RICHMOND, Va. –
Nyk Lewis (Washington, D.C.) is back on the podium.
The VCU freshman point guard was named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week Monday after helping lift the Rams to wins over South Florida and Virginia Tech at the Battle 4 Atlantis.
Lewis averaged 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals in three games, while shooting 39 percent (5-of-13) from 3-point range. The Washington, D.C. native dropped 16 points on Thanksgiving against Vanderbilt, then ranked No. 24 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. He also provided 11 points and five rebounds on Nov. 26 in a win over South Florida, as well as seven points, four rebounds and a steal in an 86-68 triumph over Virginia Tech on Friday.
In eight games this season, Lewis is averaging 10.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game, while shooting 45 percent from the floor. He was also named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Nov. 10.
Lewis and VCU will return to the floor on Friday, Dec. 5 when they host Samford at 7 p.m. at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
