AFONSO'S LATE GOAL LIFTS RAMS OVER WILDCATS

The Short Story: VCU and Davidson battled back-and-forth before the Rams Ana Afonso scored the go-ahead goal in the 57th minute to give the Rams the win.

  • Afonso scored one goal on her lone shot attempt
  • Morena Macera scored a goal on a penalty stroke, her team-high 11th of the season. Macera also added an assist
  • Emma Clements made eight saves for the Rams in goal

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Macera scored the opening goal in the 8th minute as she converted a penalty stroke to put VCU up 1-0
  • Davidson tied the game 1-1 early in the second quarter in the 17th minute as Van der Kooi was able to tap in a ball that was deflected and ricocheted off a defender in front of the goal
  • The two teams remained deadlocked until the 57th minute when VCU capitalized off a penalty corner. Macera dribbled to the left and fired a pass to the back post where Afonso tapped it in for the game-winning goal

VCU travels to Saint Joseph's on Oct. 10 for a 3 p.m. game in Merion Station, Pa. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
