The short story: Junior Nina Boledovicova powered VCU to its fourth straight win with 11 kills Saturday night at Rhode Island.
 
OPENING VOLLEY
  • Boledovicova hit .381 on 21 attempts for spark the VCU offense. She added two aces
  • Senior Julia Rienks contributed nine kills on 19 swings and also supplied three blocks for the Black and Gold
  • Sophomore Letizia Galli and freshman Sarah Dibbs-Frantz held down the middle for VCU, providing five kills and four blocks a piece
  • Havyn Rolle led Rhody with 10 kills 
THE DIFFERENCE
  • VCU outhit Rhode Island .224 to .110 in the match
  • The Black and Gold also served up eight aces to URI's two
  • VCU held Rhode Island to a -.062 hitting mark in the first set – including just six kills – on the way to a 25-20 win
  • The Black and Gold hit .314 and .333 in the second and third frames, respectively
  • Rhode Island mounted its most serious threat in the second set, when it grabbed a 19-16 lead, but VCU closed with a 9-2 blitz, sparked by a kill and ace on back-to-back plays by Boledovicova, to steal a 25-21 victory
