KHALIL'S CAREER-HIGH AND PARHAM'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE POWER VCU TO WIN OVER LOYOLA

The short story: VCU trailed 20-13 with 4:55 left before halftime but a 17-0 run spanning across halftime gave the Rams a 30-20 lead they never relinquish.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • Mykel Parham recorded a double-double, her first of the season and third of her career. She had 10 points and grabbed career-high 15 rebounds. It marks the second 15 rebound game in VCU's last three
  • Zoli Khalil had a career-high 18 points, shooting 6-of-7 from the floor along with four rebounds and three assists
  • Mary-Anna Asare was the third Ram in double figures with 18 points on an efficient 7-of-10 from the field. She added five rebounds and three assists
  • VCU shot 44 percent from the field and held the Rambles to just 24 percent shooting from the floor and 5-of-22 from 3-point range, a paltry 22.7 percent
  • The Ramblers were led by Jess Finney who had 17 points

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU took an early 6-2 lead after an Asare layup with 7:07 left in the first quarter
  • Loyola went on an 12-2 run to take a 14-8 lead capped off by a Naelle Bernard free throw with three seconds left
  • VCU went on a 10-0 run capped by Asare 3-pointer and layup with 2:19 left before halftime to tie the game at 20-20. The Rams led 24-20 at the half
  • The Rams continue the run and extended it to 17-0 as VCU's lead was 30-20 following a Khalil layup with 7:01 left in the third quarter
  • A Khalil 3-pointer gave VCU a 56-41 lead with 2:50 left in the fourth quarter. The Rams closed the game on a 14-3 run overall to pull away for the win.
