The short story:Â A trio of freshman VCU throwers shined in the discus to highlight the Rams' efforts this weekend at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational.

THROWS
- The rookie triumvirate of Shinobu Hawk, Devon Brooks and Diego Turner produced several career-best performances in the discus. Hawk led the way with a personal-best toss of 47.85 meters. Brooks followed with a PR of nearly two meters – 45.70 – while Turner registered a season-best mark of 39.59
- Junior John Casper led the Rams in the hammer with a throw of 53.75 on Friday
- Turner also placed third in the shot put with a toss of 14.88 meters, while Hawk was close behind at 14.60

The short story:Â
Isaiah Kargbo-Owens placed third in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.47 meters – the best by an Atlantic 10 Conference freshman this spring – to lead VCU at the Vertklass Open, hosted by High Point.
SPRINTS
- Senior Darius Reed got his first action in the 100-meter dash this spring, clocking 10.89 seconds in the in the participate final. Sophomore Aubrey Bryant also finished in 10.98.
- Freshman Jude Okafor set a personal-record in the 200 in 21.57. That mark is now second only to teammate Chanan Mathis among Atlantic 10 Conference freshmen
- Jaeden Cassell recorded the second-fastest time (49.33) for a freshman at the meet in the men's 400
- Junior Kacey Pratt also competed in the 400, finishing in 49.71
- Mathis clocked 21.76 in the 200-meter finals

- Sophomore Phillip Daniel leaped 14.19 meter in the triple jump

VCU will split up between Gainsville, Fla. for the Tom Jones Memorial and Harrisonburg, Va. for the JMU Invitational, April 12-13.
