The short story:Â VCU trailed 6-3 after five innings before mounting a comeback with
Anderson Fulk recording a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11
th inning.
LEADING OFF
- Fulk went a 3-for-6 at the plate with a season-high five RBIs and a home run
- Graduate pitcher Owen Tappy earned the win to improve to 4-1 on the season, throwing two scoreless innings and allowing just one hit
- Redshirt junior pitcher Jack Hoeymans pitched four shutout innings, recording a season-high eight strikeouts
- Aden Hill went 2-for-5 with a solo home run
- UMass was led by Carter Hanson who went 4-for-6 with two RBIs
THE STRETCH
- The Minutemen jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, using an RBI single with two runners on and pushing the second run across on an RBI groundout
- In the bottom of the second inning, VCU answered with Fulk hitting a three-run home run down the right field line to put the Rams up 3-2
- UMass retook the lead, getting three runs in the top of the fourth inning and another in the fifth  on a Hanson solo home run to hold a 6-3 advantage
- Hill hit his own solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to right field to make it 6-4
- The Rams took advantage of a pair of UMass errors in the ninth inning, tying the game at 6-6 after Ethan Brooks scored on a fielding error by the Minutemen
- The Rams' Fulk hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th inning to score Nic Ericsson
