VCU RUMBLES TO 10TH STRAIGHT WIN

The short story: Junior outside hitter Kalina Pylinska led four VCU players in double figures a match-high 16 kills as the Black and Gold won its 10th straight match Saturday.
 
OPENING VOLLEY
  • Pylinska hit .393 on the afternoon on 28 attempts. She also supplied five digs, three blocks and two service aces on the way to a match-best 19.5 points
  • Freshman outside hitter Lara Del Core kicked in 15 kills and three blocks for VCU
  • Graduate middle Jasmine Knight and junior outside hitter Julia Rienks supplied 12 and 10 kills, respectively, for the Black and Gold
  • VCU sophomore libero Anja Kujundzic added 13 digs, eight assists and two aces
  • Madi Disu registered 11 kills and three blocks for Rhode Island 
THE DIFFERENCE
  • VCU hit .204 and outdug Rhody 53-41 to overcome a strong blocking effort by URI
  • Rhode Island threatened to make Saturday's match interesting by taking a 15-13 lead in the fourth set. But VCU answered with an 8-2 run, including a go-ahead kill by junior outside hitter Alicja Jaryszek, to regain the upper hand on the way to a 25-19 victory
  • VCU hit .345 in the first set, an eventual 25-20 win by the Black and Gold. Pylinska was a perfect 5-for-5 on the attack in that frame

  • The Black and Gold has defeated Rhode Island in 15 straight meetings
NEXT UP
VCU will close out the regular season with four straight road matches. The Rams will kick off that swing on Friday, Nov. 8 when they square off with Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pa. in the first of two matches with the Dukes next weekend. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
