The short story: The Rams hosted a record-breaking crowd of 6,093 for their second annual SupportHER game but lost a heartbreaker to the Temple in a hard-fought defensive battle.

- VCU set a new attendance record for women's basketball with a crowd of 6,093, surpassing last year's SupportHER game mark of 6,054
- The Rams were led by junior guard Mary-Anna Asare who accounted for 19 points on 8-14 shooting from the field. She finished one-point shy of tying her career high, which was just set in VCU's last game at Howard on Sunday
- Timaya Eutsey-Lewis contributed 10 points and four rebounds
- VCU shot an impressive 45 percent from 3-point range, knocking 5-of-11 attempts
- Mykel Parham was the top rebounder for the Rams, collecting eight rebounds to accompany five points
- VCU struggled at the free throw line, going 4-of-15 while Temple was 12-of-17
- The Black and Gold accounted for 28 turnovers in the game while Temple committed just 18 turnovers
- The Rams' stout defense held the Owls to 15 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 32.4 percent from the field

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first quarter was back-and-forth, with both teams shooting less than 35 percent from the field and 25 percent from three. The teams were tied 10-10 heading into the second
- VCU broke through offensively in the second quarter, shooting 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 7-of-16 from the floor to build a 28-22 halftime lead
- The Rams built their lead to 43-36 after an Asare 3-pointer with 2:34 left in the third quarter
- Temple answered with a 7-0 run to end the frame and tie the game at 43-43 heading into the final 10 minutes
- Asare hit another 3-pointer to give VCU a 50-46 lead with 4:23 remaining but the Rams' offense struggled with turnovers and Temple went on an 8-2 run to take a 54-52 lead with 2:22 remaining
- Asare's driving layup brought the game to within 56-55 with 21 seconds remaining but the Rams got no closer
