The short story: Junior outside hitter Julia Rienks enjoyed a 17.5-point afternoon, but it did little to slow down surging and 23rd-ranked Dayton Saturday at the Siegel Center.

OPENING VOLLEY
  • Rienks smacked 15 kills on 32 swings and hit .250 on the day. She added three blocks and an ace for the Black and Gold

  • The Rams were also hurt by 10 service errors
  • Dayton hit .391 in the first set, including just two errors, on the way to a 25-15 win. The Flyers stormed to a 15-6 lead and never looked back
  • VCU appeared poised to strike back in the third frame, but were unable to hold off the charging Flyers as they rallied back from a 21-16 deficit for a 25-23, match-clinching victory
