VCU USES SECOND HALF RUN TO CUT UP WILDCATS ON THE ROAD

The Short Story: VCU, powered by a career-high 21 points from Timaya Lewis-Eutsey, led just 52-51 before closing the game on a 14-3 run to pull away from Davidson for the win.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • Lewis-Eutsey went 10-of-18 from the floor en route to her career high
  • Sarah Te-Biasu had 19 points, including 17 in the second half, along with six rebounds
  • Jennifer Ezeh recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, it marked her second double-double of the year
  • Mary-Anna Asare was the fourth Ram in double figures with 13 points and four rebounds
  • VCU outrebounded Davidson 40-31 overall and led 15-10 in second chance points. VCU has outrebounded opponents in 14 of 15 games this season
  • The Rams also led the Wildcats 18-10 in points off turnovers
  • Davidson was led by Suzi Rose-Deegan who had 17 points and four rebounds
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Davidson and VCU were tied at 4-4 early in the first quarter before a 14-5 run by the Wildcats gave them a 18-9 lead with 2:57 left in the period. The Rams were finally able to get going offensively but still trailed 24-14 after the first
  • VCU settled into the game in the second quarter, using a 7-0 run capped off with an Asare 3-pointer to get within 27-24 with 6:11 left before the half
  • The Rams absorbed a 7-0 response from the Wildcats and despite trailing 34-24, closed the half on a 6-0 run. A Lewis-Eutsey layup with 1:00 minute left allowed the Rams to trail just 34-30 at the break
  • The Rams went on a 15-0 run overall capped by a Te-Biasu 3-pointer to take a 39-34 lead with 7:19 left in the third quarter. The run extended to 19-2 after a Lewis-Eutsey layup on a fast break to make it 43-36 with 4:49 left in the third
  • The two teams went back-and-forth until the Wildcats went on a 7-2 run to trim VCU's lead to 52-51 with 6:06 remaining in the fourth quarter
  • The Rams responded by holding Davidson scoreless from the 6:15 mark of the fourth quarter until 11 seconds remained, going on a 10-0 run capped off by a pair of Te-Biasu free throws
