Records: VCU 3-4-2 (2-0), George Mason 0-10-0 (0-2)
THE SHORT STORY: Four second half goals and equally strong defense play propelled VCU Women's Soccer to a commanding 5-0 victory at George Mason, bumping VCU's Atlantic 10 record to 2-0.
The Rams last started 2-0 in conference play in 2021, a season they took home the Atlantic 10 regular season title. VCU's goals came from
Kanna Matsuhisa,
Anna Bagley,
Kendyl Sarver,
Lindsey Munyak and
Milica Bulatovic.
"It was a great team effort today to find the back of the net five times and keep our second clean sheet of the weekend," said Head Coach
Lindsey Martin. "I'm particularly happy with our second half performance for increasing our intensity and grittiness from a sub-par first half. We put together some really nice goals and enjoyed our time on the ball."

- VCU's 5-0 win is the biggest A-10 victory since a 5-0 win over Rhode Island in 2018

HOW IT HAPPENED
- VCU got the match off to a quick start, getting shots on goal from Bulatovic and Munyak in the first seven minutes
- Karpovich did have to make one diving save to keep George Mason out in the third minute, but the Rams would keep things relatively clean in front of Karpovich's net for the rest of the way
- The early attack set the tone and in the 10th minute VCU struck
- George Mason's Ginny Fronk (GK) attempted to play a ball out of the back, but Matsuhisa was ready to pounce.
- A weak pass to Fronk's defender allowed for Matsuhisa to come out of seemingly nowhere to steal the pass and slot the ball past the keeper to put VCU up 1-0
- In the middle portion of the half, Karpovich made a pair of saves, stopping a shot in the 25th minute and the 26th minutes
- Carleigh Frilles (34th minute) and Matsuhisa (35th minute) ripped off two more shots as the half came to an end with VCU up 1-0
- Karpovich made her fourth save of the match in the 55th minute and shortly after the Rams struck again
- Taking a ball right around midfield, Bagley dribbled past six George Mason defenders, placing the Patriot defense on skates as she glided into the box and placed it past the keeper for VCU's second of the match (61st minute)
- VCU's goals kept coming from there, and in the 64th minute Sarver took an almost perfect build up from Matsuhisa to Bagley to net the Rams' third of the match
- A George Mason foul in roughly 65 yards out and on the left side gave Munyak a shot at her first career goal
- Hitting a shot that landed in just the right spot, Munyak's 67th minute free kick took one bounce in the box before getting past the keeper to make it 4-0 VCU
- In the 79th minute the Rams got their final corner kick of the match, and as usual Bagley took to the spot
- The Ram redshirt senior sent a perfect ball into the box which was met at just the right height by Bulatovic who smashed home VCU's fifth of the match to lock up the 5-0 conference win
UP NEXT: VCU remains on the road for another A-10 battle when they head north to UMass on Sept. 21. The Rams then return home on Sept. 24 to play host to Rhode Island at Sports Backers Stadium.
