THE SHORT STORY: An early goal from sophomore
Kendyl Sarver was not enough for VCU Women's Soccer to come away with its second win of the season, as William & Mary scored a late equalizing goal to pull even and draw VCU 1-1.
PITCH SIDE
- Sarver scored her first of the season with a ninth minute goal on an Anna Bagley assist off a corner
- It was Bagley's second assist of the season, both off of corners
- Allison Karpovich started on goal and played all 90 minutes for the first time this season
- Karpovich recorded three saves, facing four shots on goal
- The Rams recorded eight total shots, with two on goal
- Carleigh Frilles came off the bench and played an aggressive 16 minutes, recording two shots and one shot on goal
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It did not take long for the Rams to open the scoring when Sarver scored in the ninth minute. The goal came off a corner, sent in by Bagley and quickly put the Rams in the driver's seat early in the action.
- Over the next 35 minutes the Rams asked all the question, ripping off four more shots, including one on goal
- In the 33rd minute, Frilles took a shot that forced a save from William & Mary's Zoe Doughty, as VCU kept the pressure on.
- The Rams opened the second half with a pair of shots from Aisha Maughan (48th minute) and Bagley (51st minute)
- As the second half rolled on, the Rams could not find the second goal and in the 63rd minute Karpovich made her first save of the match. She followed that up with her second save in the 68th minute
- In the 85th minute, Karpovich again kept the Tribe out of goal making her third save of the match on a shot from William & Mary's Kayleigh Shackford
- But the Tribe would finally get one past Karpovich when Ivey Crain scored the tying goal in the 87th minute putting it at 1-1.
