The Short Story: VCU trailed Saint Joseph's 10-9 with 11:18 left in the third quarter before the Rams shut down the Hawks' offense and outscored SJU 8-2 for the remainder of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Rams took a quick 5-2 lead in the first quarter on Morgan Reed's goal with 1:56 left in the period
  • Saint Joseph's responded by scoring six of the next seven goals to take a 7-5 lead with 7:52 remaining before halftime
  • VCU answered with three of the next four goals, capped off by Slack's goal with 1:39 left before the half. The Rams took an 8-7 lead into the break
  • Saint Joseph's come out of halftime, scoring three of the first four goals in the third quarter to retake the lead at 11:18 in the third quarter
  • McDonnell scored a man-up goal, the first of five unanswered for VCU, to give the Rams the lead at 14-10 with 12:05 left in the fourth quarter
  • The Rams only allowed two Saint Joseph's goals in the final 26:17 of the contest, outscoring the Hawks 8-2 in that time and pulling away for the win
