RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Women's Basketball Head Coach
Beth O'Boyle has announced the signing of Chilean international Valentina Ojeda.

Ojeda, a native of Punta Arenas, Chile, joins VCU after spending the past two seasons at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas. Ojeda was named to the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference First Team this past season.

"We are so excited to welcome Valentina to Ram Nation. Valentina brings a wealth of experience from her successful career at Independence CC and internationally with Chile. Valentina is an elite scorer who can exploit defenses off the dribble, from the 3-point line and with her midrange. She has an incredible work ethic and is a true competitor," O'Boyle said.

Ojeda started and played in all 31 games last season as a sophomore at Independence where she averaged 19.4 points per game while shooting 41.9 percent from the field. She also shot 41.9 percent from 3-point range. Her freshman season, she averaged 10.5 ppg while shooting 57.6 percent from the floor. Overall, she played in 62 games for Indy with 61 starts in her two seasons.

Ojeda appeared for Chile most recently at the 2022 South America Women's Championship for the senior team. She's also appeared in the FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship and in the U15 South America Women's Championships. Ojeda played high school basketball at Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida.
