The Short Story:Â In his first career win, starting pitcher
Jack Goleski tossed five innings, which included six strikeouts, lifting the Rams above the .500 mark for the first time since the first week of the season in the final tune-up ahead of conference play.

LEADING OFF:
- Goleski threw 86 pitches, allowing just three hits
- Brian Curley came out of the bullpen and tossed a career-high six strikeouts in two innings pitched, which included an immaculate inning in the seventh
- Brandon Eike stayed on fire at the plate which included a three-run home run, his sixth of the season, and two total hits
- Cooper Benzin and Jake Thilges added on two hits for multi-hit days
- Thilges also scored three runs for the second time this season
- AJ Mathis hit his first triple of the season and added on two runs
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Goleski managed Norfolk State's lineup well through the first three innings, allowing only one hit, which was quickly terminated by a double-play that ended the third inning
- Mathis used the momentum created by the VCU defense and with a triple in the third got the Rams on the board.
- In the fourth, the Rams loaded the bases thanks to a single by Thilges, a fielding error, and a hit-by-pitch, Casey Gibbs took one for the team when he was also hit by a pitch, which brought in the second run of the game
- After William Bean scored on a fielder's choice, Cooper Benzin singled to second base which brought the score to 5-0 Rams
- Norfolk State scored three runs in the top of the fifth to make the score 5-3
- The Rams responded in the bottom of the frame with two RBI singles by Gibbs and Ethan Brooks, bringing the score to 7-3
- Curley's immaculate inning came in the top of the seventh inning which provided the Rams with a much-needed 1-2-3 frame
- The Rams used the seventh inning to tack onto their lead as Brandon Eike hit a first pitch bomb into left-center field which scored three runs. There were five total runs scored in the inning
- Justin Walton had a solid outing in the final frame against his former team, striking out two batters to end the game
