HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
- VCU and Rhode Island were tied 4-4 early in the game but Rhode Island went on a 10-0 run and led 14-8 at the end of the first
- The Black and Gold held Rhode Island to 30.8 percent shooting in the second quarter but led by as many as 12. Griffith-Wallace scored six points in the last 3:30 of the second quarter. Rhode Island led 26-16 at halftime
- Rhode Island went on a 16-4 run in the third quarter starting at the 8:34 mark that lasted just under five minutes. They increased their lead to 42-22 at the end of the period
- VCU was unable to cut into the deficit in the fourth quarter
